Benefits Exchange Alliance made several key transitions this year which resulted in a lower overall medical rate increase that will appeal to more employees. Please note, this will be a PASSIVE ENROLLMENT, meaning if you have NO CHANGES to your benefits or home address you do NOT need to submit a new application.
New to BXA:
This is a great opportunity for large as well as small franchise owners to offer medical, dental, vision, and life benefits to your employees and owners. With small group rates on the rise, we offer a great solution to your benefit needs with ease of sign up and strong HR support. A key difference with our plans, there is NO PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS. If you currently offer group health insurance, you may wait until your renewal to join our plan.
This year, we made several key transitions which resulted in a lower overall medical rate increase that will appeal to more employees. As always, the plans are ACA compliant and the team at Benefits Exchange Alliance can assist you with any questions you may have in terms of contribution strategy.
Below is a quick snapshot of rate changes for both the Medical and Ancillary plans:
Medical Benefits: We will continue to offer four medical plans through Aetna. This year, we decided to replace the current H.S.A. option with a PPO counterpart that will provide richer benefits (copays available immediately when visiting doctors and buying prescriptions). We also were able to lower the out-of-pocket maximums on both the Plan A and B as well as increase the coinsurance from 70% to 80% in-network, providing richer benefits at a slight price increase. The California HMO plan got hit fairly hard with an increase to the deductible, but the premium increase was only 7.92%. All rate increases include the approximate 4% ACA fees required by carriers.
Aetna Medical: overall 9.02% increase
- Plan A 80/50: 10.06%
- Plan B 80/50: 9.50%
- Plan C 70/50: 4.62%
- Plan D HMO (CA Only): 7.92%
Ancillary Benefits: We will continue to offer Dental, Vision, Group Paid Life and AD&D and Voluntary Life and AD&D benefits through Assurant (Sun Life). Dental, vision, voluntary Life and AD&D rates all remain flat with no increase. Group Life coverage experienced an increase from $0.23 to $0.26 per thousand of coverage. For all newly participating franchisees(12/1/2017), any employee who enrolls in Medical, Dental and/or Vision coverage will automatically be enrolled in Group Paid Life Insurance of $10,000. As an employer, you can offer $10K, $50K or $100K of coverage to your full time employees, however the default value will be set to $10K with an employer cost of $2.60 per month per employee.
- Dental: No change
- Vision: No change
- Employer Paid Life: 13% increase
- Voluntary Life: No change
- Group Paid Life: any employee enrolled in medical, dental or vision coverage, will automatically be enrolled in $10,000 of ER Paid Life coverage at a minimum; the monthly premium is $2.60.
