On Wednesday, May 18, 2016, the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) announced the release of their final rule to update the regulations defining and delimiting the exemptions for executive, administrative, professional, outside sales and computer employees.

The new overtime regulations may impact executive, administrative, sales and professional employees. The rule will take effect on December 1, 2016, so it is important to understand the implications and begin planning today. Failure to pay overtime pay correctly to eligible employees can result in fines and penalties under the FLSA and/or applicable state law.
